What Benefits Do Google Cloud Services Provide Over AWS

Google cloud services may not be enjoying the biggest cloud market share currently, but they have some significant benefits over AWS. Google cloud services are growing exponentially, threatening to overtake AWS that has dominated the cloud-marketing scene for a while.

While we are not here to give a detailed comparison of these two giant public cloud providers, we will highlight the benefits that Google cloud services have over AWS. We will also explore how Google cloud strategies may shape the future of public cloud computing.

Price Discounts

Public cloud computing providers offer discounts to their users. AWS services, charged at 2.3 cents per gigabyte for the first 50 TB, appear less costly than Google cloud that charges 2.6 cents per gigabyte.  However, Google is ultimately less expensive and has a simpler pricing discount calculation formula.

Other than charge users for data, they consider an organization’s sustained use. That means firms that run their data on the platform consistently enjoy higher discounts. Your discount may vary depending on several factors, but firms with more workload may begin seeing huge discounts after 2 weeks of sustained use of the platform.

This contrasts AWS’s pricing discounts policy that requires users to commit to a reserve figure on which their discount is pegged. Google cloud services favour firms that use cloud services consistently.

Private Fiber Network

Google cloud services are surprising not closely interwoven with other Google services like Google My Business, Google Drive, Gmail, and Google Maps. However, by inter-weaving with Google’s private fiber networking infrastructure, Google cloud services users have access to superior networking since Google’s fiber networking performs better than the other standard network infrastructure.

Although Google’s private fiber networking is not free, firms looking for a high-performing infrastructure can pay to access it. That way, they will get better fiber services than those using AWS infrastructure.

Enhanced Confidentiality

Confidentiality and data security have always been a concern for most cloud service users. Cloud services providers offer encryption of data in storage.

However, Google cloud services have taken data safety and confidentiality a notch higher with its new confidential VMs. They encrypt your data in storage and as you work on it. This gives you round-the-clock data safety and confidentiality.

The confidential VMs are powered by Google Cloud’s N2D series and leverage AMD’S Secure Encryption Virtualization, a feature that is supported by Google’s 2nd Gen AMD EPCY CPUs. The non-exportable per-VM encryption keys are hardware-generated.

Customer to Community Connectivity

Google cloud services now offer a platform where customers can form communities for interacting and sharing ideas. This service is currently open to users in North America, Africa, and the Middle East.

Customers can organize virtual events on this platform to share resources such as methodologies and white papers. The solution is popular with IT developers, executives, and other cloud experts. They will be instrumental in its development and global rollout as customer advisors and a source of feedback.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning

AI and machine learning are common in all the major public cloud service providers. There is nothing to show that Google’s AI and machine learning stands out from the others since they all are broadly similar.

However, users perceive Google’s AI and machine learning as widely better. The perception results from Google’s marketing materials and campaigns in which they paint their Big Data services as better.

This perception that Google has superior AI and machine learning has earned the platform more traffic. However, if you have used cloud services from the other providers, you will know that they also have similar platforms. Nonetheless, Google publicized its platform more aggressively and influenced users’ perceptions of its cloud services.

Hybrid and Multicloud Approach

Google cloud platform’s hybrid and multi-cloud strategy is perhaps the platform’s greatest differentiator. It is based on Anthos, a framework that allows users to run their workloads on multiple private clouds. It also allows users to run workloads on in-premise cloud infrastructure.

Google hybrid and multi-cloud enables users to integrate seamlessly with clouds from third parties. This is unlike AWS that limits users to their cloud platform with no option of building multi-cloud infrastructures.

Users do not have to leave their Google cloud platform as they share their cloud data on other public cloud platforms. This will endear the platform further to users. In addition, you no longer need to copy datasets for you to share them on your multi-cloud infrastructures.

Multi-Regional Levels

All cloud services are located at regional levels. While AWS cloud services have more granular regional locations, Google cloud services have more multilevel regional locations.

The regions are not interconnected, meaning downtime in one location does not affect the other locations. Google goes further to allow synchronization of various regions. This enables users to share data across regions depending on their cloud service needs.

Service Organization

Google allows users to organize their services per project. Since most organizations process and share huge data, it becomes easier to organize the data and make it more accessible to cloud-managed Service teams like WPG Consulting.

Users can create different accounts for different projects giving some autonomy to each project. Once a user completes a project, he or she can delete that account and all the data relating to that project.

This is unlike AWS that allows one account for each user and sub-accounts for different projects. To access a project, the user has to log in to their main cloud account. Users may find this cumbersome, especially if they are running several projects being done by different people.

It is Associated with Google

Google has a healthier image than Amazon that owns AWS. Since Amazon is more popular as an online shopping platform lowers the value that users place on AWS, its cloud services platform. Users trust Google cloud services more because they associate them with other reliable Google products.

Besides, they see a brighter future for Google cloud since the mother company is primarily IT-based and is, therefore, likely to strengthen its current platform and innovate better IT solutions. This link makes Google look like the most natural place to launch cloud-based workloads.
